Woolworths Planter
19-Feb-2010 19 February: Representatives of Woolworths and Landcare Australia Ltd were at the 2010 NSW Conservation Agriculture Field Day at Trangie on 18 February to hand over a cheque worth $22,000 to CANFA (Conservation Agriculture and No-till Farming Association) for the construction of of a modified, multi-disc demonstration planter, to be used in planting demonstrations across the CANFA region.
Woolworths established a Sustainable Farming Program in partnership with Landcare Australia Ltd in 2007. Over the past three years, they have funded about 150 similar projects.
Woolworths Area Manager for the Central West, John Graham said the company is committed to supporting farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices. "We are delighted to support this project with CANFA, which is doing an excellent job promoting practical methods for improving soil health and reducing erosion.
"Woolworths is aware farmers across a wide area have a strong interest in no-till developments and we hope that farmers can benefit from the opportunity to test this new planting unit on their properties."
Neville Gould said the mobile planter will be used throughout Central NSW, as well as by the Temora Agricultural Bureau, for the demonstration of disc technology by any group, farmer group or individual who wants to use it.
"The planter will be put together in the next few months and will be available for this winter's cropping trials. Farmers will be able to get an understanding of how these discs work on different soil conditions, on different crops at different speeds."
